Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how UnclutterPhotos handles information for our web photo tools and Windows desktop photo management application.
Last updated: June 25, 2026
1. Products Covered
This Privacy Policy applies to:
- UnclutterPhotos web application: browser-based photo tools available at unclutterphotos.com.
- UnclutterPhotos Desktop: the Windows desktop photo management application, including versions distributed directly from our website or through Microsoft distribution channels.
- Related services: account sign-in, license validation, support, download tracking, and email delivery.
2. Our Privacy Position
UnclutterPhotos is designed so your photo library stays under your control. Core photo scanning, duplicate review, metadata reading, thumbnail creation, organization, and editing happen locally on your device. We do not upload your photo library to our servers for processing.
3. Information We Collect
Depending on which product or feature you use, we may collect the following limited information:
- Account information: email address and authentication identifiers when you create or sign in to an account.
- License information: license key status, plan, activation ID, device count, app version, and license validation timestamps.
- Payment/order references: external order IDs, plan selected, payment provider references, and delivery status for license emails. Payment card details are handled by the payment provider, not stored by UnclutterPhotos.
- Usage and app telemetry: anonymous install/open events, app version, platform, update checks, trial starts, license activation events, and download-click events.
- IP addresses and technical logs: IP address, approximate country or region, timestamps, request logs, browser or app user agent, device/OS type, and API diagnostic information may be processed when you use the website, download the installer, sign in, validate a license, check for updates, or contact our services.
- Web app usage data: scan/session metadata such as number of photos scanned, duplicate groups found, and storage-savings estimates when features save this information to your account.
- Support, billing, and refund information: information you send to us when requesting help, billing support, or a refund, such as your email address, order ID, license ID, payment provider reference, issue description, refund reason, screenshots, or logs you choose to share.
4. Photos and Local Files
For both the web app and desktop application:
- Your photos are processed locally in your browser or on your computer.
- We do not upload your original photos to UnclutterPhotos servers for duplicate detection, photo management, editing, or organization.
- You choose the folders or files you want the application to access.
- The desktop app stores its photo library index locally on your computer, including thumbnails, metadata, album/tag/rating information, and related app data.
- If you contact support, only send photos or files if you intentionally want us to review them for support purposes.
5. Desktop App Data Stored on Your Computer
The Windows desktop application may store local application data such as:
- Indexed folder paths you selected.
- Local SQLite database files used for the photo library catalog.
- Thumbnail cache and metadata cache.
- License/session state, device ID, and offline license-validation information.
- User preferences and local app settings.
This local data remains on your computer unless you delete it, uninstall with app-data removal, or clear it through application controls where available.
6. License Validation and Account Services
The desktop app uses Supabase-based services for sign-in, trial creation, license activation, license validation, account license recovery, and device-limit enforcement. License checks may send limited technical information such as account ID, device identifier, app version, platform, activation ID, license ID, and validation timestamps.
We use this information to prevent license abuse, support offline access periods, enforce device limits, provide account recovery, and keep paid features available to licensed users.
7. Analytics, Downloads, and Update Checks
We collect limited operational analytics to understand whether the app is working and being downloaded:
- Download tracking: when the Windows installer download link is clicked, we may record source page, release version, approximate country, timestamp, user agent, IP-derived network information processed by Cloudflare, and an anonymous visitor identifier.
- Desktop telemetry: the desktop app may record anonymous first-open, app-open, version-check, update-available, update-click, trial-start, and license-activation events.
- Update checks: the desktop app may check our website for the latest available version and show an update prompt.
These events do not include your photos or photo-library contents.
8. IP Addresses, Logs, and Technical Data
Like most online services, our website, APIs, hosting providers, download infrastructure, license services, and security tools may automatically receive or process IP addresses, request timestamps, browser or app user-agent strings, approximate location derived from IP address, device or operating-system details, referrer/source page, API response status, and diagnostic logs.
We use this technical data to deliver downloads, protect services from abuse, troubleshoot errors, validate licenses, measure basic usage, operate update checks, and maintain security. We do not use IP addresses or logs to upload or identify the contents of your photo library.
9. Maps, Location Data, and External Services
If you use map or location features, the desktop app may read GPS metadata from photos locally and display map tiles from third-party map providers such as OpenStreetMap/Leaflet-compatible services. Reverse geocoding or map display may require an internet connection and may involve requests to external map/location services. We do not upload your original photos for map display.
10. Service Providers
We use trusted service providers to operate UnclutterPhotos, including:
- Supabase: authentication, database, Edge Functions, license validation, account/license data, and related backend services.
- Resend: transactional license and account-related emails.
- Cloudflare: website hosting, download redirects, R2 object storage, security, and traffic delivery.
- Payment providers: payment processing and order events when you buy a license. The specific provider may include Lemon Squeezy, Paddle, Buy Me a Coffee, Microsoft, or another provider we choose to support.
- Microsoft: if you obtain the desktop application through Microsoft Store or Microsoft distribution channels, Microsoft may process store account, download, crash, purchase, and device information under Microsoft’s own privacy terms.
